Livvy has been riding since she was little and Robby means a lot to her and her family. What a beautiful horse.

I just love this image. There was just enought water (and mud and dead fish) to give this amazing reflection. Love it!

I had a blast this morning with Miss Livvy, her big sister, and mom. I was not sure that I wanted to get into senior portraits and can I tell you how happy I have. It is fun to have some variety in my work and seniors are so much fun!

Today when Kenadie came back from grandma's house(thanks mom) grandma had her hair in two french braids and I just thought with her new hair cut she looked so cute. I can't believe how much older she looks now--no more baby face. Well here is my sweet soon to be three year old. I just love her.

I promise to have client pictures soon. My schedule the next four days is crazy busy with sessions. Also I heard from my blog desinger that it is almost ready after months of me promising it to you. So I hope soon to be launching a new look for my blog. Stay tuned!

For My Aunt

Here is a picture of Mr. Butch my aunt and uncle's dog. My aunt asked if I could take a few pictures of him because she is not sure how much longer he is going to be around and I of course would do anything for her. So here is Butchie as Kenadie like to call him!

This is the first time I have tried to photograph a pet alone and I think pets may be harder than children-ha.

Last night my client called and said when she stood in her back yard the water was up to her ankles and tomorrow I am suppose to travel to Cottage Grove, however, the interstate and back roads are all closed due to flooding. Today I was "THAT" Mom

So the girls and I headed to Fowler Park today to meet up with some friends and have lunch. Well my three year old decided to have a complete nutty for no apparent reason. I mean it was the screaming, kicking, yelling. and throwing herself on the ground nutty. I then counted to three she would not quit so I went to take her to a time out and she ran. Yes I ran after my screaming three year old around the park. I finally caught her and held her like a football kicking and screaming to the car. She then had her timeout in the car screaming and banging on the windows. Of course everyone was watching and I felt like the worse mom in the world that no control over my child. So anyone at the park today that witnessed this--Yes that was me!
Tonight as I am writing this she is screaming in her bed and I mean screaming. I tell you everyone says the terrible twos are hard, but I beg to differ. I find the defiant threes to be more difficult.
I hope you are all staying dry and do not have any water in your basement. While I was out today I overheard many many moms talking about how their basements had water and I just felt so bad.

Today I traveled to Milwaukee to photograph this sweet little baby boy. I truely feel honored when I am invited into a families life at such an important a percious time. I also had the opportunity to meet some extended family that so graciously gave up some time with sweet little James so I could photograph him. Thank you for a fun morning.

I hope everyone survived the horrible storms early today. My yard was full of hail and the girls were really freaked out. Thankfully it has stopped now and everyone is in bed!

I am just in love with all of the images from this session. I am so glad I found this location--I love the light and variety of backgrounds. These two just cracked me up because they were so serious, but that is there personalities. I am posting quite a few simply because I cannot choose. The rain stopped

I am so happy the rain decided to stop this afternoon so I could photograph this adorable little boy. Although I think he may have been happier inside--he did not like the grass on his feet at all. I totally remember my girls doing the same thing! We meet up at his grandma and grandpa's house on Oconomowoc Lake and what a beautiful property--a photographer's dream! Grandma was so sweet and willing to help. There are so many more great ones mom and dad--don't worry. Thank you for a fun afternoon.

I don't normally post so many images, but it was hard to choose and I have not posted any for a while so I am trying to make up for it tonight. My weekend is full of sessions so I promise to post more later.

So I am often asked about what to wear. I totally thought about this yesterday as I was at Mayfair Mall all by myself. One of my favorite stores is JCrew and they now have Crew Cuts in the back of the store. I almost died when I walked in. They have the most amazing clothes for kids. I could have walked out of the store with one of everything. I even thought about buying some of the clothes just to have for clients-ha! Anyway if you are looking for cute kids clothes please check them out--seriously! Also if anyone ever wants me to go shopping with them I would LOVE to! I may run back and buy a few things to have on hand--that is how cute it all is. All of the colors would just pop and they have the cutest polka dot dresses and shirts for girls. Okay enough about clothes. I hope you all had a great holiday.

How sweet is she? I have been photographing Miss Piper since she was in mom's tummy and she is just the sweetest thing. I had a great time yesterday trying new things and old things. The shot with her on the bench is one of my favorites and we have decided to do this one each session to watch her grow--I just love it. And the green bucket--how adorable. Okay here are the last bunch of pictures of my girls. Sorry for so many, but I just have to share for grandma and grandpa. It was so hot at the reception that Tatum jumped into a fountain to splash around. We also had this great trolly to ride to and from the hotel--it was a lot of fun. The driver was a little crazy and loved to slam on the brakes, but the kids liked it.

My Flower Girls

Well here there are--my flower girls. Aren't they cute?! I had so much fun with them. We went and had our hair done that morning and had breakfast. It was a blast. The girls were just adorable. I did not get many pictures of anything else besides them though. I had all these great ideas in my head, but watching three flower girls and making sure they stayed clean and cute was a huge JOB--ha! I think I was more stressed than the bride--probably not! Well here are a few of the girls together and one of me with them for all of you that have not met me in person yet. It is always fun to put a face with a name. More to come tomorrow. from vacation and thought I would start with a few pictures of all the cousins. My girls had such a great time playing and swimming with all their cousins. They did not want to come home. Tatum actually woke up crying tonight and had to call Madison in AZ to say good night. I hope you all don't mind some family pictures for the next few days. The weather was awesome, the food was excellent, and company priceless.

Today I had the opportunity to photograph little Miss Saylor. She is just adorable! I photographed her mom when she was still in her belly and her as a tiny newborn. I just love watching my clients grow and being part of their first year. Mom and Dad are the NICEST and SWEETEST people you will meet. I had such a great time today. They traveled almost two hours to me and dad spent his first day of vacation taking pictures--what a sweet guy! It seems like newborns come in clusters--at least for me. In the last week I photographed twins and just yesterday I photographed this handsome little guy. When I arrived at his home on the East side of Milwaukee I knew I was going to find great areas in the house to photograph. This house is full of character and fabulous natural light. It was any photographers dream home.

I just love talking to new moms. They are so happy and thankful. They use words like "truly blessed" and I can almost see their glow over the phone. I just love his missing front tooth! I remember my 6 year old's toothless smile not so long ago.

Today I photographed three very adorable little boys who are here visiting from Paris. They all have the most amazing big brown eyes--can you guess where they get them from? When I arrived the littlest one was sleeping--mom said he was a bit jet legged and was not sure I would get a chance to photograph him. I am so glad he woke up--he is just so cute. We literally swept him from his nap outside to the porch and I am amazed how well he did. Thank you all for a great session and I hope you enjoy your vacation!

So I was debating if I should post a sneak peek from today's session in Hartland or a few more of my favs from Saturday. Well today's session won. Little Miss Claire is one lucky girl to have two big brothers to watch out for her--although I have a feeling she will be able to hold her own! And the boys were a lot of fun. Sorry I have been a little MIA. It is always busy around here with three little girls. I have been searching for a new blog and am sure I have found the right designer to work with. So in a few weeks my blog will have a totally new look and larger images--yeah! There has kind of been a "calm before the storm" feeling for me lately. I am gearing up for 9 sessions and preparing for vacation all in the next three weeks. Also on my mind is spending quality time with my girls. It just seems like life gets so busy and I forget to spend REAL quality time with them. Totally my fault and I am feeling the guilt. How do all you working moms do it? Finding a good balance is tough. I am open to any advice so bring it on.

My weekend was packed full with clients, but due to this rainy spring weather two appointments had to be rescheduled. We were able to take the girls to Kid's Fest at State Fair Park and spent about twenty minutes there before we decided to go to a quieter place to play the YMCA. After that Sean wanted to try a new place for dinner called Five Guys in Delafield. He loved it I did not and Tatum ate her weight in peanuts! Well that about sums up my weekend. I hope you all had a great weekend with your family.

..turn around, Teddy Bear Teddy Bear touch the ground. These are the words I heard all night from Sawyer as she jumped rope in the living room. It totally made me smile and remember when I used to sing the same thing while jumping rope outside at school at recess time. Man kids grow up fast!

Side note: Don't forget to come and shop at Oconomowoc Nursery School tomorrow night from 6:00 until 9:00 at Our Saviors Church in Oconomowoc. There are 20 different vendors there and a portion of all sales will be donated back to the school. I look forward to meeting you all.

So let me first say my girls are troopers. They put up with the camera in their faces A LOT and yesterday was no exception. I am still searching for a great location to take some more "urban" portraits, but wanted to show just a few of my girls from yesterday. I have a few session coming up that requested this look so I am trying to perfect it a little.

PS. it was a little breezing yesterday and my girls were freezing, but they still look cute! The sun was also really really bright and getting them not to squint was a challenge.

Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a great start to the weekend. The weather looks promising for tomorrow. Maybe spring is finally here. I know I am very anxious to start photographing outside again. This weekend I am trying out a few new outdoor locations with my girls. So watch for new images soon. Next week I am particapating in a fundraising event for Oconomowoc Nursey School. The school is hosting a shopping extravaganza with around 20 vendors on Thursday April 10th from 6:00 until 9:00pm. I just love my mom. She helps me out so much. I cannot imagine how different my life would be without her. At 8:30 this morning the phone was ringing. I looked at caller id and it was my mom on her cell phone. She was calling to ask if she could have the girls today and was wondering if they were dressed. I said they will be by the time you get here. So I had the day to myself--HEAVEN! This is a rare occasion and I am sure all you moms out there can identify. My day is usually full of caring for my girls, running here and there, laundry, cleaning, playing, and squezzing in work when the girls nap--if they nap! So to have a day to just be me is the best gift.

The funny thing is my mom does not have a computer and never reads my blog so she will not even see this.

I love you mom. Thank you for all your support!

Taking the night off

So I have decided to take the night off ( imagine that) and make homemade cinnamon rolls for the family for breakfast tomorrow morning! This really won't help my "lose 10 pounds before my brother in laws wedding goal", but oh well.

It has been a busy day around the house for me. So busy that I took Tatum to the doctor for her four year check up, but guess what--her appointment is actually next week! First time I have ever done that.

Now for some business stuff. I only have three sessions available for April and three for May. If you are thinking about a session please call or email me. Also Mother's Day is next month. Time to start thinking about gifts for mom and grandma. Portraits, session albums, and wallet albums make great gifts. I am currently in the process of adding some jewerly and purses to my product list. I hope to have some samples soon.

Today's session has left me struggling to find just one or two favorites. I love many of these images and have only edited a few that stood out to me. I thought I would share because I know mom is checking. I bet mom thinks I am going to share a funny little story from our session today, but I'm not eventhough it is really really funny! Let's just say it was a first for me!!

Today's session also has me wanting a natural light studio because when I got to this home I totally rearranged their furniture so I had a blank canvas to work with. Wouldn't a natural light studio be fun!?!

We were pulling into the drive way tonight after being at the YMCA and then picking up dinner and Tatum asked if I could carry in her pictures she had colored at the Y. I said sure honey, but I do have to carry in a lot of other things too. She then said "Mom you must have six arms and seven legs to be able to carry all that stuff" I thought to myself somtimes I wish I did. This is one I will write down in her baby book and show her someday when she is a mom.

It has been a busy week with the kids on Spring Break. I have pictures to edit and promise to post some more soon.

Tape and Bandaids

Who would have ever guessed that I should have invested in tape and bandaid stock. I think my girls like to play with these two things more than their toys! I know I am not alone because I was talking with a client the other day and her little girl was wanting some tape and we laughed about this very thing. I think we should toss the toys and fill the toy box with tape! Anyway this is what went on in our house today--boring I know--Spring Break is coming to an end and unfortunately the weather has not been accomadating for outside play. I hear it is suppose to be in the 50's next week!

Melt My Heart

My girls just melt my heart. They are so sweet and loving. Last night Sawyer left me two notes in the hallway that she wrote after she went to bed. They said "I LOVE MOM" with a bunch of hearts. Tatum asked to spend time with just me. She wants to go out to dinner and then get some ice cream. Kenadie is so darn cute. I want to just bottle her up and keep her this little forever. Her sweet little voice and expressions are priceless.

I don't usually post so many pictures of my girls, but I had a hard time choosing which one to post and figured Grandma and Grandpa would like to see them all.

This little guy was so laid back when I photographed him. He sat back and went with the flow. He was super content and I never heard him fuss once. Defining my style. So I have been thinking about this a lot lately and I do believe that my style is always evolving. As time goes by I learn new techniques, new technology becomes available, and I grow as a photographer. However, I will always strive to find great light, engage my clients, and give my clients the best quality possible.
When I look through my galleries there are a few things that stand out to me as “my style.” I like to get eye contact. That does not mean I do all the time and I do take many pictures without eye contact, but I seem to be drawn to it. I also seem to be drawn to a more serious soulful look. I don’t feel like I have to get a big smile all the time. A lot of the time I will go through different expressions with children. I will say show me your happy face, serious face, grumpy face, ECT. It is that serious face I love. It just seems like you can see right into their soul. Please don’t get me wrong. There is a lot to be said about a laugh and a giggle. They are priceless expression too and I very much enjoy capturing those moments also.
Anyone can pick up a camera and take a picture, but I truly believe great photographers have a gift. A gift to connect with people, read light, and a creative vision for their clients. That is what this journey is all about for me, being a great photographer and bringing joy to each and every client.
As Spring is approaching and my busy time is beginning it is important to me that you all understand what motivates and drives me. I am looking forward to a rewarding and inspiring year.

I have not had the chance to post some of my favorite images from 2007 and thought I would take today to do that. It feels like a sleepy winter day eventhough it is March--a perfect day to curl up with a good book or catch up on a favorite blog. This was hard to narrow down and I could just keeping adding pictures. I have many many more favorites!

Guess what came in the mail today

My new canvas print--yeah! I am like a kid in a candy store when the UPS guys comes to the door. My face lights up like it is Christmas. Everyone needs a canvas print. They are just stunning. Enjoy!

Also anyone wanting or thinking about booking a Spring or Summer session I am booking up quickly. I am currently booking through August and will open my calendar for Fall in June. This year I am accepting a limited number of session per month so I can truly focus on each client. Therefore, if you are wanting a spring/summer session especially a weekend please give me a call or send me an email.

My Pictures in Milwaukee Family Magazine

I am so excited and am grinning ear to ear. Four of my pictures are featured in the premiere issue of the Milwaukee Family magazine. I stopped by their office today to pick up a few magazines and I just have to say how wonderfully nice and down to earth they all are. I have to admit I was a little teary when I saw the pictures in the magazine. I am so committed to my business and feel so passionately about photography. This was a big stepping stone for me.

The Milwaukee Family magazine is a free magazine published twice a year. It is full of helpful articles for todays family. It is not yet available online, but was told it will be. If you are looking for a copy I know that the YMCA and most doctor's offices get it. Just look around town and I am sure you will find one.

Horton Hears a Who

Yep that's right we went to see Dr. Suess Horton Hears a Who today with the girls. What a very cute movie. It held my 2 1/2 year olds attention for most of the movie--which is saying A LOT! This is actually the first time we have all gone together as a family. We were just not brave enough to do this until now--plus it is nice for somethings to be "special" and not every day outings. So if you are thinking about taking your kidos to the movie--DO IT--they will enjoy it.

Today the girls and I spent the morning visiting the Eater Bunny, hunting for eggs, and making Easter chicks--and one lamb. We had a great morning! Hope you all have a great weekend and enjoy the warmer weather.

Mommy moment

Life with three young girls and a growing photography business can be crazy. Throw in my husband's sales job and our schedules are a little crazy. I have been feeling really bad about my business taking over my life--guilty that I don't spend more time with my girls. That is one of the reasons I started my own business--to not have to punch a clock or put the girls in daycare full tme. Other than my obvious LOVE for photography of course! So last night the girls and I went out to dinner together and then to the grocery store. On our way home this song came on the radio just as I was pulling into the garage. The girls just love it. So I cranked up the radio opened all the doors and we danced in the garage. It was so much fun. They laughed and giggled the entire time. This was a great mom and daughter moment. I just had so much fun. I am looking forward to more of these moments.

How cute is he? I kept saying "he is so cute" the entire time. I just love this age. I love all ages-- each age brings something different to the camera, but 6 to 9 months is just so fun.

Giving Back

This Saturday the YMCA at Pabst Farms is having their annual Strong Kids fundraiser and I have donated a family portrait package for their slient auction. The YMCA is a wonderful organization that provides unbelievable services for our community. Get your pencils sharpened!

I also want to say thank you to the families that bid on my donated portrait packages for Oconomowoc Nursery School and Summit Elementary School. Supporting our schools and giving to the community is what is it all about. Thank you and I am excited to meet you all for your portrait sessions!

Easter Cookies

Last night my wonderful Aunt Laurie and Uncle Joel came over to spend time with my girls and make Easter cookies. My husband and I went out to dinner ALONE and it was so nice to eat my food while it was still warm. When I came back home I could hear all kinds of giggles coming from the kitchen. They had a great time! Below are Tatum and Kenadie’s favorite cookies from the night.

One thing I must mention is my Aunt makes the BEST cookies ever! At Christmas time if you are one of the “lucky ones” you get a plate full. Trust me these cookies are like liquid gold. Not one little crumb goes uneaten. I think I should twist her arm this year to make me two plates and I will have a give away for my faithful blog readers. You will not be disappointed! Aunt Laurie I know you are reading this—what do you think?

Is it Spring Yet?

Spring is almost here--I can just about taste it!! I am so excited for the snow to melt and to get outside again with out big bulky winter jackets! I am just in love with all the sunshine lately too.

In lieu of my excitement for Spring and all the wonderful warmer weather I just know is headed our way I would like to offer 1/2 off session fee special for the month of March. The session must take place this month--March 2008. What a great way to get your feet wet with lifestyle photography and have lots and lots of fun! I just don't like to post without a picture so here is my daughter Kenadie. Before she got sick Saturday she asked me to take pictures of her. That is very rare so I happily snapped away. It is funny because clients say to me all the time "You must have so many great pictures of your girls" My girls actually don't like to have their pictures taken at all. I think I have spoiled that for them by using them as my guinea pigs at times.

February was the month of birthdays

I think February is the month of birthdays. I have photographed many one year olds in February and in my immediate family we have 5 birthdays within one week of each other--including mine and my husbands and my daughters.

The Sun is Out

Winter is getting long, but at least the sun is out today! Just wanted to share a few more photos from a session last week. Love the green walls--so fun! I always have the hardest time deciding on what pictures to post here. I seem to want to post them all! I just love the last picture. Guess Who is 4?

Happy 4th birthday Tatum!! My daughter Tatum turns four today. I am not sure where time has gone. I did not realize how grown up she looks until I was editing these pictures from today. No more baby face! Also pay close attention to the hair cut she gave herself a week or so ago. She did not have bangs before then--see the really short ones under the long pieces. I need to get her in to fix the new hair style, but I am not sure what they will be able to do. The shortest pieces are really really short. Good thing Uncle Brian's wedding is not until May--she is a flower girl!

"I would like to nominate Heather Brockway. Heather has 7 children ages 21 to 3. She is an amazing woman. All of the children are involved in sports or other activities and she manages to get to everything somehow! Her house is always neat and orderly and she can have 10 different things going at once, but her children are definitely her top priority.

Heather can be in the middle of making dinner and when she has a moment that she can break away, she will stop and play a game with the kids. I have witnessed this several times and I am in awe of how she manages to do it.

She makes each of her children feel so special, as if they were the only one. The love that the children have for each other says so much about the love that she and her husband have shown to their children. All the children respect their parents and each other so much.

There are so many things that they all do together as a family and they all enjoy it! They love the simple things in life and they have fun with everything they do, whether it is putting together a puzzle or going to visit friends and relatives.

Now this is the part that makes me cry. I appreciate so much what they have done for my niece, Sarah. Sarah's mom died when she was 9 and her dad remarried and then divorced a few years ago. Sarah had no place to live after the divorce. She was dating Heather's oldest son, Greg who is the most amazing young man in the world. They took Sarah in and made their home, her home. Each one of the kids loves her like she is a sister. And she loves and cares about each one like they were her very own family.

I am so grateful to them for all they have done. It can't be easy to have a house full to the brim with children and still find room to take in another. Sarah is treated like one of their own children in every way. Heather does her laundry, has birthday parties for her, and the list goes on and on. And the best part is that Sarah and Greg are now engaged and so Sarah will have them all in her life forever!

I could go on for a long time about what a great job Heather has done as a mom. She makes me feel like a real whimp, having only one child!"

Wow what a busy week, but I love it. These two were the cutest "models" today. I had the hardest time choosing which images to post so sorry for so many. I just love photographing in Merchan't Platt. The homes have so much character and most of them have closed in front porches with wonderful light! These two are just too cute! I even left with a surprise--a drawing of me taking Ellie and Jack's picture courtesy of Ellie.

Fox Valley Sessions

Mom Contest

Okay maybe I need to clarify something. I have had several responses saying they loved my contest, but are not sure what a "great mom" is.

A great mom does not have to mean someone who volunteers on every board possible, runs their brownie troop, and has solved world hunger all in a days work. To me a great mom is all in the little things. Someone who adores her children, plays silly games at a drop of a hat, and really enjoys being a mom. I know a few great moms and I call them great because when you see them interact with their children they just light up and their kids just adore them.

I hope this helps. Remember think about the little things. Daily stuff you might just take for granted.

Honor a Special Mom Contest

Being a mom is a privilege and at times trying. Balancing work and kids or just kids can be tough. I want to honor a special mom for Mother’s Day. Yes I know Mother’s Day is 5 months away, but I am a planner!

Here is the scoop. Email me and nominate a special mom in your life. It does not have to be your mom( but it certainly can be) or maybe a friend or aunt that stands out to you. Tell me why she is a great mom. I will pick a winner and photograph her and her children in April this year and present to her a 16x20 print from her session as a Mother’s Day gift.

I will be posting the winning story on my blog and a few others that stand out.

Dead line is February 1st, 2008.

Sorry it has been a while since I have blogged. I am working hard on my new website--so very excited to launch it--and I am working on a Valentines special. I hope to have all the details hammered out this weekend and will post it here. I am also wanting to have a contest, but am wanting to do something fun and different--still brainstorming.

I have also been working with Lake Country Pediatrics to decorate their new office in Delafield with some of my photographs. They are planning on opening up a second office soon! Check back for a special limited time give away for new clients of mine that see my photographs at their office.

So as you can see there are new, fun and exciting changes coming soon. Please keep checking back!

On a side note it was my youngest daughter's first day of Preschool today! I cannot believe it. She is going one morning a week for two hours--just enough time to play and make new friends. Well here are two pictures from today. As you can tell she was really not in the mood for pictures, but I snapped a few anyway. Enjoy!

I had the privilege of photographing this 8 day new baby girl today. She was awake the entire time and was so good. I never heard her cry--not once. She is just beautiful and very much loved. Enjoy!
